Embrace Farming For Sustainable Wealth – Speaker Anita Among

"I want to encourage the young people by saying that humility is crucial and that you should be grounded. Even though I have everything, I can still come down here to take care of my cows.

Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Speaker of Parliament, has urged Ugandans to embrace farming as a long-term method of wealth creation.

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, Ms. Among, the Bukedea District Woman Representative and owner of a country house farm in Ayereyere village in Kamutur Sub-County, advised young people to cease opposing agriculture, adding that “Agriculture is the only way to go.”

“I want to encourage the young people by saying that humility is crucial and that you should be grounded. Even though I have everything, I can still come down here to take care of my cows, Ms. Among stated.

She also counseled young people to start small and work hard to achieve bigger heights.

Even if it’s chicken, you should be able to purchase something for yourself. When I was a child, it was common to see someone start off with a chicken before buying a goat or cow two or three months later. You must take action and continue to develop, she advised.

President Yoweri Museveni’s farm in Kisozi, according to Ms. Among, gave her the idea to start farming, and she hasn’t turned back since.

“I want to reassure everyone, especially my esteemed colleagues, that agriculture is the only viable option since it will never fail you down. I give the women [in the constituency] cows when my farm is large so they can grow personally as well. We use cow manure as fertilizer because this area is used for agricultural, and the locals also use the milk, she explained.
