The 4 Acre Model Will Revolutionize Northern Uganda

President Yoweri Museveni stressed wealth creation as a cornerstone of the NRM in empowering its people while running for the NRM candidate, Engola Samuel Junior, in the Oyam North parliamentary bi-elections. He made a distinction between prosperity and advancement. He emphasized his point by speaking in the regional dialect.He claimed that while “Dongo Lobo” (development) belongs to the government, “Lonyo” (wealth) comes from personal effort to build prosperity in our homesteads.

The four-acre model has a good chance of success because northern Uganda has excellent soil conditions for effective farming. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 4 acre model includes 1 acre for coffee, fruits (citrus and mangoes, pineapples), pasture for feeding cattle, and a fourth acre for cultivating food crops.

Animal manures are an important source of nutrients for crops and can lower production costs.The four-acre model is now a self-sustaining method of boosting household incomes.

To combat poverty, Uganda must increase agricultural production, which can be done through raising farm productivity.Profitable farming is not far from reality. For instance, Kizito Edward, a 29-year-old smallholder who grows maize, coffee, and bananas on his small farm in Buikwe, central Uganda, has had plenty of crops lately because he used fertilizers in his endeavor, allowing him to purchase a truck and bring happiness to his family.

In conclusion, the government has already stepped up in providing infrastructure such as roads and start-up capital such as the Parish Development Model; it is now up to us, the citizens, to raise awareness of and implement government wealth creation messages. PDM will go a long way in providing financial assistance to farmers in purchasing inputs.

This is my modest request to the country’s youth to visit the gardens and support their women before heading to trading centers to play ludo and Canisi (cards). This will not only help to ensure our food security, but will also help to increase household income.
