“Take advantage of wealth creation programs” – President Museveni

According to the President, the Government has established wealth funds to encourage wealth and job development in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT, stating that the country is peaceful and that the major focus should now be on fighting the economic war among our people.

President Museveni advises university students to take advantage of wealth creation programs. President Yoweri Museveni has urged university students to participate in wealth creation activities to alleviate household poverty.

“Over 38% of our homesteads are still poor because they are still engaged in subsistence agriculture, producing for the stomach, which is dangerous because, besides food, there are other needs that must be met such as school fees, shelter, clothing, and medical among others, so form SACCOS to benefit from those programs,” President said.

Concerning the PDM

President Yoweri Museveni established the Parish Development Model (PDM) in February 2022 as a strategy to transition homesteads from subsistence farming to a money economy.

According to the scheme, each parish is expected to receive Sh17 million in the current fiscal year to begin implementation of the scheme.

The program intends to bring more than 16 million Ugandans out of subsistence farming and into the money economy by providing each household with a starter loan of sh1 million to invest in agriculture and other industries.

So far, the government has distributed approximately sh490,459 billion to over 10,594 Parish Development Model SACOOS across the country.

President Museveni delivered the remarks on Monday at the conclusion of the four-day National Students and Youth Leaders Empowerment Summit at the Grand Global Hotel in Kikoni, Kampala.

The subject of the National Students and Youth Leaders Empowerment Summit is ”Rooting Patriotic Student and Youth Leaders for National Peace Unity and Programs.
