Residents of Kawempe got sh1.3b PDM in Cash

PDM cash distribution began on Tuesday at USAFI Taxi Park and Market in the Central Division, where recipients from 98 parishes received over Sh1 billion in cash. This marked the start of the rollout, which would eventually extend to five divisions of the Kampala district.

Funds from the Parish Development Model (PDM) have been distributed to 1,325 recipients in Kampala City’s Kawempe division by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

22 Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) and 22 Wards make up the Kawempe division. They each received sh1.315 billion, which was transferred through their Opportunity Bank accounts.

Beneficiaries include people who work in any associated industry along Kampala’s agricultural value chain, such as roasting maize, selling chapati, fresh food, or popping popcorn.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni established the PDM initiative in February 2022 with the audacious objective of rescuing 17.5 million Ugandans from 3.5 million people living in subsistence households.

The government’s Parish Revolving Fund is a capitalization grant that SACCOs can use to finance sustainable revenue-generating ventures, such as the production, processing, marketing, and storage of agricultural goods.

This initiative is an example of the government’s most recent attempt to fight poverty and promote economic change, particularly for those families who still rely heavily on small-scale businesses and agriculture for their subsistence.

Last week on 9th/11/2023, during the Thursday afternoon money distribution at Christian Life Church in Bwaise, Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Minsa Kabanda requested that beneficiaries develop a saving culture and involve their family members in increasing their wealth.

Beneficiaries were cautioned by Kampala state minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye not to use PDM funds for anything other than supporting their current enterprises and building wealth.

“If you are going to fight corruption, thievery, and bureaucracy in key ministries, notify the government officials who beg for bribes to our relevant offices,” he said.

According to Kabuye, KCCA fulfilled all requirements for funding disbursements, including enterprise creation, SACCO organization, training, and yearly general meetings, by according to the PDM secretariat’s recommendations.

In order to register as beneficiaries in the following groups, beneficiaries are instructed by PDM deputy coordinator Joveline Kalisa to report government officials who seek bribes.

Grace Kemigisha, a Mulago III zone beneficiary, emphasized that because beneficiaries who farm suffer significant risks from unpredictable weather patterns, the only method to track their success is to look at their farming practices.

Anisa Nabisere, the KCCA PDM focal point, provided a briefing on the organization’s preparedness to carry out this government change-maker plan for social and economic transformation during the occasion.

According to Nabisere, the city is on track to carry out the program; ward administrators have been hired, a PDM secretariat has been established, and regular sensitizations are being conducted for individuals who will benefit in the subsequent phase.

She also mentioned that new SACCOs were being registered, that enterprise registration was still going on, and that data collecting was still going on.

Nabisere claims that women lead at least 60% of the homes, the majority of which are from impoverished areas.

42,000 beneficiaries, 1,200 enterprise groups, and at least 97 Sacco’s registered to receive benefits.
