President Museveni Urges Women Leaders to Drive Economic Empowerment in Uganda

President Museveni advocated for the adoption of the four-acre farming model and diversification into commercial agriculture, small-scale industries, and service sectors. Museveni highlighted the NRM's prioritization of people's needs over religious and tribal identities and indicated openness to a candidacy examination for the 2026 elections.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pushed women leaders to promote the concept of bringing everyone into the money economy rather of spending time politicking.

“Every homestead must join the money economy with “ekibaaro,” and those with small pieces of land should use the four-acre model of farming,” President Museveni emphasized.

He made the statements today while speaking to the leaders of the National Women’s Council and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League at State House-Entebbe.

The President advised women leaders to encourage people with small plots of land to adopt the four-acre model, in which the first acre can be planted with coffee, the second acre with fruits, the third acre with food for the family, and the fourth acre with pasture for animals, as well as poultry, piggery, and fishing farming in ponds.

“If you do this type of farming, that means we will have defeated poverty through commercial agriculture,” President Museveni emphasized.

He pledged to organize a tour for women leaders to meet some of the people who have responded to his wealth creation message, such as Mr. Richard Nyakana of Rwengaju, Fort Portal, and his (President) neighbours in Kisozi, Gomba.

President Museveni informed the women leaders that, in addition to commercial agriculture, they might urge people to adopt the Emyooga program and small-scale industries such as shoemaking and tailoring to lift themselves out of poverty.

He also advised leaders to encourage Ugandans to pursue careers in the services sector, such as transportation, medicine, and education, in order to better their living conditions.

He also identified the fourth sector, ICT, as another opportunity for Ugandans to improve their economic situation.

President Museveni, on the other hand, informed the women leaders that the NRM stands out from other political parties in Uganda because it prioritizes people’s needs over their religious and tribal identities.

“The first issue we addressed was security. “The main problem was insecurity, and once that was solved, the NRM gained popularity,” he explained.

“You, as NRM preachers, should preach to people to get out of poverty using the NRM concept.”

He told the women leaders that their suggestion for his candidacy in 2026 would be examined in NRM structures, and that a decision would be made shortly.

The Chairperson of the National Women’s Council, Hajjat Faridah Kibowa, commended President Museveni for his support and elevation of women in leadership positions.

“We are appreciative for everything you do for women.”All the women you see here are NRM flag bearers in their districts,” Hajjat Faridah explained.

She also notified President Museveni that the NRM Women’s League and National Women’s Council want him to run for president again in 2026 and beyond.

“Accept that we launch you as our chair,” Hajjat Faridah asked President Museveni, as her fellow leaders displayed banners supporting the President’s candidacy.

Hon. Betty Amongi, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, also attended the meeting.
