President Museveni Urges Kasese Residents to Prioritize Household Income for Economic Growth

Speaking at a thanksgiving event in Nyakatonzi, President Museveni emphasized the importance of "ekibaro" (calculation) in making profitable financial decisions.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has advised the Kasese people to focus on increasing their household income in order to improve their social and economic conditions.

“Focus on household incomes; others will come later,” he stated.

The President made the statements today at a joint thanksgiving event for Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, Minister of State for Trade, and Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga, Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, held at Kaguta Grounds in Nyakatonzi, Kasese District.

The President told the residents that if they want to create money, they should do so using “ekibaro” (calculation) so that they might make good profits.

He said money may be created through the four areas of the economy: commercial agriculture, manufacturing/industries, services and ICT.

President Museveni emphasized that those with tiny plots of land should follow the four-acre model of farming, in which they plant coffee on one acre, fruits on the second, dairy pasture on the third, and food crops on the fourth acre. He suggested that they raise hens, pigs, and fish in their backyards.

“As you create riches, use ekibaro (calculation). Some people do not have ekibaro, which leads to household poverty,” he said, warning small-scale farmers against cultivating commodities like maize and cotton, which require huge plots of land to be viable.

“Those who have listened to the NRM message have managed to thrive.”

President Museveni also advised the people of Kasese to distinguish between wealth creation and development, arguing that the former is more crucial for Ugandans’ socioeconomic transformation.

“People do not distinguish between wealth generation and progress. Even with development like as tarmacked roads and electricity, residents remain destitute. “The NRM analyzed that development is for everyone, but wealth is for individuals,” he stated.

He also warned Kasese residents against tribal and religious identity politics.

“A person who promotes identity politics based on religion and tribe is your opponent, and they are selfish. A person who is not greedy collaborates with everyone, regardless of tribe or religion, to promote his or her success,” he explained, before imploring the residents to maintain peace in their community.

On the other hand, President Museveni praised God for Gen. Mbadi and Hon. Kabyanga, as well as for his elevation to the Ministerial positions.

“They are good public servants who carry out their tasks properly. I’m overjoyed to be here and thank God for elevating them,” he remarked.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, commended President Museveni for naming Hon. Kabyanga and Gen. Mbadi as Ministers.

He also expressed concern over the people of Kasese’s lack of family income, and he promised the President that they are already sensitizing the public to support government initiatives and projects targeted at improving their livelihoods.

“We are mobilizing them to embrace the 4 acre model, and we are setting an example.” “Me and Gen. Mbadi have started demonstration farms to show people what to do, and other leaders are doing the same,” he said.

“Your Excellency, apart from PDM, give us affirmative action, we are going to show you that Kasese has been transformed.”

Gen. Mbadi, for his part, expressed gratitude to God for His blessings in their lives.

“And of course we want to thank Him for using you, Your Excellency, to identify us and find trust that we can be part of your Cabinet and support you in your endeavors to cause socio-economic transformation in our societies so that we are all prosperous and job and wealth creators,” according to him.

“I really thank God and you for the various appointments and promotions you have kept giving me.”

On behalf of Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, His Majesty, Charles Wesley Mumbere, Gen. Mbadi commended President Museveni for maintaining the country’s peace and security, citing it as a foundation for progress.

“He also thanked you for loving Rwenzururu and Kasese and the support to the cultural institutions,” according to him.

Ministers, members of Parliament, and other dignitaries also attended the ceremony.
