President Yoweri Museveni has inaugurated the Sebei Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Kween District, capping off a three-day tour of the Sebei sub-region to review wealth generation and the Parish Development Model.
The industrial cluster, one of 19 in Uganda, is part of the Presidential Initiative to Skill Youth. It intends to train over 12,000 young people each year, providing them with practical skills to enter the money industry and improve their lives.
“This center is doing an excellent job of imparting skills. “Whether it’s factory work, baking, or ICT, these are all paths to wealth,” President Museveni stated during the event.
The hub provides vocational training in trades such as welding, tailoring, carpentry, hairdressing, bricklaying, and electrical installation. Graduates get Uganda Vocational Qualifications Level One certificates, which are internationally recognized and equal to the Uganda Certificate of Education.
President Museveni underlined the significance of preparing youth to generate wealth and help their communities. “We will introduce common user facilities with big machines like cutters to enhance productivity and maximize benefits for all,” according to him.
The President also highlighted plans to decentralize Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) to district levels for better accessibility. “We will put money in SACCOs, but they must be closer to the people,” he said, emphasizing the role of financial support in economic transformation.
Education remained a significant theme of the President’s discourse. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing free primary and secondary education through the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programs.
“Collecting school fees in government schools is a crime. It drives children out of school. That’s why we’re investing in hubs like this to train kids for free, including meals and lodging,” he said.
President Museveni echoed the National Resistance Movement’s agenda, encouraging Ugandans to embrace commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT as cornerstones of wealth development. He recommended farmers to focus on high-value ventures like coffee, dairy farming, and fish farming for long-term profitability.

Ms. Yeko also underlined the importance of parents in supporting the hub’s initiatives and the significance of locally produced goods through the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative.
Several local authorities stated that the Sebei center symbolizes the government’s dedication to preparing young people for wealth generation, community growth, and economic independence.
