In order to support the socioeconomic transformation of Ugandans, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on the Masters of Ceremonies (MCs) in Busoga to serve as ambassadors of wealth creation in the Subregion.
Haji Faruk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant-Press and Mobilization, gave the speech today to the Busoga ceremony MCs at the Sikezy Hotel in the Iganga District, and President Museveni made the following statements.
With more than 250 MCs, the Busoga Cultural and Events Speakers Association (BUSUSA), under the direction of Mr. Meddy Dhakaba, seeks to bring them together and support them in upholding professionalism and discipline in their line of work.
In order to help Ugandans combat poverty and build wealth, the President also urged the MCs to use their position to promote government initiatives like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
President Museveni stated in his speech, which was delivered by Haji Kirunda, “Use the ceremonies to sensitize the masses on wealth creation and this also helps you because when people create wealth they will be able to organize parties which you host and when they are poor they will not be able to organize them.”
“As ambassadors for wealth creation in your communities, make sure to shift locals’ perspectives for positive development outcomes.”
Additionally, he counseled the MCs to remain unified and preach peace and stability in the nation using their mics.
“MCs have the power to make or destroy a country.”
The President also chastised officials, particularly those from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), the ruling party, for not using the media to mobilize and raise awareness of the government’s accomplishments and initiatives.
Instead, he warned, “you allow the government’s enemies to use the media to try to cause instability in the country.”
President Museveni also gave Shs. 10 million to the MCs association’s new SACCO at the same event.
Hon. Sauda Kauma Alibawo, the woman member of parliament for the Iganga district, commended President Museveni for his capable leadership in allowing Ugandans to express their rights, including the right to free speech.
“Your Excellency, we are grateful that the 1995 National Constitution has allowed Ugandans to exercise their rights,” she remarked.
She did, however, issue a warning, saying that Ugandans should make good use of their right to free speech and refrain from using it to undermine national harmony.
Hajji Abubakar Walubi, the NRM Chairperson for Iganga District, Mr. Michael Kifubangabo, the Information Minister for Busoga, who represented the kingdom, Mr. Hamis Kiganira, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (D/RCC) for Jinja Northern Division, Mr. Blessing Mubbi, Mr. Yakut Kalange, the Assistant RDC for Namayingo, and others were also present at the event.
