President Yoweri Museveni said he does not want to be surrounded by impoverished people because God will question why he is wealthy among the poor.
He delivered the remarks while speaking to the nation on television and radio stations around the country on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
The President stated that when he acquired land in Kisozi, Gomba area, he saw that the locals were democratically poor.
“I told them I didn’t want to be neighbors with poor folks. This is never my belief because I do not want God to question why I am a wealthy man surrounded by poor people. “I started a big struggle to educate them,” the President stated.
During his lecture, he emphasized on wealth creation to highlight the issue faced by people, who, according to his press unit, are familiar with “wealth consumption” but are unaware of “wealth creation”.
“In our analysis, in the 1960s, we saw that Uganda would be very successful if we go back to where the colonialists found us when they interfered with us — develop the indigenous wealth, modernise it,” Museveni remarked in an interview.
He further stated that as a money maker, he does not dislike any Ugandan.
“I love all Ugandans because they purchase my items. They purchase my milk, beef, and bananas. “How can I have a Ugandan I dislike?” He said.
The President went on to say that they always advise people to be wealth producers and to reject parasitic and sectarian politics.
“The politics of going out and talking to foreigners are simply agents of foreign interests. He observed, “We have almost everything here in Uganda.”
