President Museveni Addresses NRM MPs on Wealth Creation

President Yoweri Museveni advised leaders to take the lead in pushing their electorates to become intimately involved in strategic and commercial farming if they are to shift into the money economy.

The President made the call while speaking to the NRM parliamentary caucus during 2nd June 2023 a 10-day retreat at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi region.

“This is an extremely important topic for both you and me because it is what I have been involved in for the past 60 years.” Uganda has abundant in natural resources, including land, forests, grasslands, water, and everything else.”

The President advocated for MPs to serve as leaders in the social-economic change of society, rather than entrusting the responsibility to extension workers in the Ministry of Agriculture. He stated that wealth creation is about social and economic transformation, and that he typically has issues with organisations who spend a lot of time on extension workers.

“How far are they going to go?” They have no idea because the issue is one of social and economic transformation,” he added.

Gen. Museveni, who encouraged MPs to always internalize the anatomy of society, also entrusted them with supervising, mobilizing, and guiding the population in government-instituted projects like as the PDM, which is administered by the people themselves.

The President directed that the MPs focus their efforts on preaching the gospel of social-economic transformation and the adoption of the money economy. “We tried several things, such as Operation Wealth Creation and NAADs, but we finally settled on PDM, which is run by stakeholders.” “Your job now is to mobilize those stakeholders, supervise and guide them alongside the rest of us,” he continued.

President Museveni meticulously walked MPs through the history of Europe’s transformation from the lower classes to modernity, urging members of Parliament to follow suit. “This is critical because it is extremely dangerous to be in leadership if you do not understand the anatomy of society.” The President highlighted that it is extremely risky for you.

According to the President, European society was divided into four classes by the time of the French Revolution. “There were the aristocrats, the feudalists, and the middle class, which they dubbed the bourgeoisie.” “I believe these examples could help you by looking at the social structure,” he advised.

He reminded them of the NRA spirit’s early message, which stated that if you want to contribute durably and sustainably to the social economic change of society, you must first comprehend the revolution’s ideology and methods of work. “This will help you solve so many problems,” he recommended.

The retreat, which is now on its sixth day, has gathered over 400 MPs from both the government party and the independent NRM-leaning NRM.
