“Any official who does not do their duty in prosecuting those thieves (suspected) will be held accountable,” the President warned

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has moved to crack down on corruption in the Lango sub-region, directing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to withdraw police bonds granted to officials accused of misappropriating funds meant for Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries.

The President, who concluded his four-day wealth creation and PDM programme assessment tour of the Lango sub-region, issued the directive following a disturbing report by the late Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka (RIP), dated January 25, 2025, which exposed cases of corruption among local officials.

During the visit to the sub-region which includes districts of Lira, Apac, Oyam, Kole, Dokolo, Amolatar, Alebtong, Otuke and Kwania, the President was briefed on the extent of the malpractice, prompting swift action to hold those responsible accountable.

In a statement shared on X, formerly Twitter, Museveni reiterated his unwavering stance on good governance and the need for public officials to act in the best interest of Ugandans.

“Any official who does not do their duty in prosecuting those thieves (suspected) will be held accountable,” the President warned.

The move is expected to reinforce public confidence in governance and strengthen transparency within government institutions.

The Parish Development Model, designed to uplift households at the grassroots level, has been marred by allegations of extortion, with some officials reportedly demanding bribes before disbursing funds.

By revoking police bonds, the government aims to ensure that those implicated face the full force of the law.
