PDM Beneficiaries Whose Goats were Murdered by Wolves Receive Compensation from Alupo

Uganda Wildlife responded to the cries of the afflicted people by sending a lady MP to dry their tears.She gave sh130,000 to each person who lost their goats and sheep.

In the Katakwi area, wolves attacked multiple communities three months ago, killing and devouring 76 sheep and goats.

Jessica Alupo is the district woman MP for Katakwi and vice president.

Authorities in the area claim that 34 goats and sheep that were killed and consumed by wolves were purchased by the residents with funds from the Parish Development Model (PDM).

The recipients were inconsolable after this episode because, as a loan, the money was used, and they had two years to repay it.

Moru B Village, Kide Village, Getom Village, Pailakol Village, Africa Village, and Aboiboi Village are the communities that are impacted.

One of the winners was Jacqueline Asio, 36, who had lost eight goats and sheep.

“I appreciate you supporting me, my daughter! God bless you for your kindness,” Asio, a happy resident of Getom Sub County’s Kide Village, stated.

During a meeting with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the affected villages called by Alupo to find a long-term solution to the ongoing problem of wolves murdering sheep and goats in the district, she expressed her gratitude.

“I would want to express my gratitude for not assuming legal authority in spite of the harm these untamed animals have inflicted. Alupo addressed the impacted group, saying, “You’re law-abiding citizens who recognize the value of tourism.”

She also urged Uganda Wildlife Authority to quickly conduct an evaluation process with the goal of paying all impacted parties for their losses in accordance with the law.

Senior Warden James Okware of Pian Upe Game Reserve expressed regret to the impacted community for the harm done.The wolves are from the game reserve of Pian Upe.

In addition to wolves, hippos pose a threat to the towns around Lake Opeta, namely harming the subcounties of Toroma, Magoro, and Kapujan.
