Omukama Oyo to Champion Emyooga Initiative as Tooro Kingdom Celebrates Economic Growth

Omukama Oyo emphasized the importance of land utilization for economic benefit, assuring his people of continued support and security.

In order to boost the kingdom’s economy, Emyooga beneficiaries in Tooro Kingdom have asked Omukama Oyo Kabamba Iguru to serve as their global product brand ambassador.

Tooro Kingdom celebrated two important anniversaries on September 12: Omukama Oyo’s 29th year in power and the program’s revolutionary effects.

Through the backing of microfinance, this government project seeks to increase economic growth and reduce poverty.

The Emyooga recipients demonstrated their prowess as entrepreneurs and a diverse range of products, showcasing the program’s accomplishments and role in the expansion of the kingdom.

Since its August 2019 launch, the Emyooga initiative has been instrumental in promoting economic development in the Rwenzori Region, home of Tooro Kingdom.

The program, which is led by the Microfinance Support Center (MSC), enables local company owners—particularly women and young people—to establish long-lasting enterprises.

This economic upswing supports Omukama Oyo’s idea of exploiting land for productive uses, motivating his subjects to make the most of their resources in order to profit financially.

Prominent businesspeople exhibiting their wares during the fair included Josephine Kabeeri, representing Buharani Emyooga Women Entrepreneurs, and Alice Kajoiina from Brave Girl Skilling Centre. Both women are from Burahya County and the Harugongo Sub-County, respectively.

Their exhibits served as a symbol of the advancement and skill improvement made possible by the Emyooga program.

In praising the achievements of local business owners, Niwagaba Vianney, General Secretary of Mwenge South Produce Dealers, said, “The Emyooga initiative has not only transformed livelihoods but also reduced poverty levels across many households.”

In the midst of commemorating his 29th birthday, Omukama Oyo urged his followers to keep making efficient use of their land to combat poverty.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the prosperity of the kingdom by promising continued security and support for their business endeavors.

Insuring his people that “no one is going to chase you off your land,” Omukama Oyo pushed them to “work hard through agriculture and other economic ventures.”

Political figures, such as Woman MP for Fort Portal City Irene Linda, voiced hope about the program’s successes.

“Emyooga has improved livelihoods and reduced poverty visibly, so it has obviously made a difference,” Linda said.

But Linda also underlined that more government financing is required in order to broaden the program’s appeal.

“The Emyooga program’s current funding is only the beginning. We beg the government to provide MSC with additional funding so that many more people can benefit—especially since Omwoga is a group that encompasses a large number of people in a single area.

In addition to honoring the financial advancements made possible by the Emyooga program, the exhibition provided a forum for recipients to ask Omukama Oyo to act as a brand ambassador for their goods.

This plan lays the groundwork for future cooperation and expansion by highlighting the growing connection between traditional leadership and economic development in Tooro Kingdom.
