Launch of PDM’s Third Financial Inclusion Pillar for Households in Tororo District

In order to allow the community to access services for financial inclusion at the parish level, the RDC reminded beneficiaries that PDM implementation is at the parish level and asked the banks to comply with the cabinet direction and ensure that banking services are at the parish level.

On May 5, 2023, at the District headquarters, the Tororo district Local Government began disbursing cash to Subsistance households under Pillar 3 of the Parish Development Model.

Chief Guest Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, Minister of State for Defense and Veteran Affairs, RDC Nixon Owole, Deputy RDC Albert Amula, District Chairperson Hon. Okea John, Members of DEC and entire political leadership, CAO and technical staff, Ambassador Phibby Otaala, Subcounty Chairpersons, community of Tororo, and Beneficiaries in the subsistence sector were all present at the launch.

The SACCO leadership and technical staff were exhorted by CAO Tororo to adhere to the PDM implementation standards.

Hon. Okea John, the district chairperson, advised the populace to use PDM to change their homes.

The Parish chiefs and Community Development Officers were urged to collaborate with their respective communities after he furthered notified stakeholders that the district has hired critical individuals.

The RDC, Mr. Owole, addressed the audience that poverty is Uganda’s biggest enemy and that the government is committed to using PDM to solve the issue nationwide by moving people from the subsistence economy to the market economy.

In order to allow the community to access services for financial inclusion at the parish level, the RDC reminded beneficiaries that PDM implementation is at the parish level and asked the banks to comply with the cabinet direction and ensure that banking services are at the parish level.

Politicians were reminded by Mr. Owole that the success of PDM will release them from community pressure, and he advised them to learn more about PDM before opposing the PDM Program.

The recipients were informed by the Minister of State for Defense and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, that the district-level launches were intended to initiate the execution of Financial Inclusion’s third pillar, where households will receive funding for their individual businesses.

He further informed members that government is committed to social transformation of Ugandans and more money will be sent to SACCOs and PDM will succeed with the involvement of all stakeholders.

The Hon Minister cautioned the people of Tororo to desist from stealing PDM funds and urged the people to guard the money since these are their respective community banks at Parish level.
He urged the SACCO leaders to avoid discrimination against beneficiaries in the subsistence sector.

The Minister Launched the disbursement of funds to respective households in different parishes in Tororo district.
