The government has launched a programme to organise ghetto youth dwellers in Hoima City to economically empower them under the Ghetto Initiative Bunyoro.

During an engagement with the ghetto dwellers of Sanisiro in Kiryatete Ward in Hoima East Division on Wednesday, Juma Asiimwe, the LC1 Chairman for Kiryatete Lower, urged the youth to embrace skills development and avoid criminality.

Emmanuel Ssempija, the Albertine Region Police Liaison Officer, asked the youth to form manageable groups to benefit from government programmes.

Ssempija stated that the programme will involve skilling the ghetto youth and helping them attain relevant skills, urging them to collaborate with local leaders.

Sula Nyakojo, the Chairperson for Sanisiro Ghetto, emphasised that not all ghetto dwellers are criminals.

Nyakojo called for support to help them start income-generating businesses, enabling them to desist from criminality.
