52 young people from the Busia municipality and district have been chosen to receive the Presidential Skilling Initiative benefits.
On Friday, the kids in the second batch were dismissed to go to the Presidential Skilling hub located in the Kibuuku district’s Tirinyi.
Trainees from two municipalities and seven districts in the Bukedi region are housed in the Tirinyi skilling hub.
At the flag-off ceremony held at the Busia district headquarters, the kids were encouraged to use the skills they would acquire for the benefit of society.
According to Michael Kibwika, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Busia, the chosen youth should sell their abilities in the job market in order to make a living, while many people in the Bukedi region are struggling with life as a result of a shortage of things to sell in the market.
“Those who don’t have goods to sell in the market ought to possess skills,” Kibwika stated, pleading with the trainees not to water down the program’s objectives.
When Kibwika flagged off the recipients on Friday, she said that the young people who were chosen were from the poorest families in the district.
The trainees will have a smooth transition upon skilling since they will be included into the ongoing government development initiatives, according to Deputy RDC Grace Kanuna.
Tirinyi is too far, according to Busia district secretary for health and education Betty Ajambo, who is pleading with the government to establish a new training center for the districts of Tororo, Butaleja, and Busia in Bukedi South.
Beneficiary Karen Nafula of the Buhehe sub-county expressed her satisfaction that her ambition of receiving hairdressing training had come true. She explained that although she had registered, she had dropped out because of financial difficulties, but this time she would be able to obtain a certification.
Building abilities are very helpful to Duncan Wafula, a construction site laborer who has been employed on a contract basis.
One of the recipients’ parents, Israel Wabwire, pleaded for the beneficiaries to receive discipline during their six months of training.
